EUROSTAT BUSINESS REPORT (Intro Chapter)

They say entrepreneurs’ life is always very exciting. Probably that is true every moment, except from when you need to dig into numbers and statistics!

Analysing numbers can be very boring sometimes.

But knowing how to interpret the statistics is vital to have an accurate picture of the field you are moving in.

For example, ever wondered how things are doing in EU for enterprises? What is the most common size in number of employees? How big is their revenue? How long does a company  last in the market on average?

These are all important pieces of information when opening a new company.

Eurostat recently released a report on European business. We are going to share the most important points in this and in the next following articles.

We promise we won’t make you sleep!

INTRO: Business and enterprises in EU

According to Eurostat, in 2020 there were 23,4 million enterprises in EU. Employed people were 127,6 million have generated a value added of €6.496 billion.

Micro and small (up to 49 employees) enterprises represent 99% in number, 48,5% in number of employed force, and 35,4% in generated value. What is impressing, if we take into our analysis also medium sized enterprises (50-249 employees), the numbers increase to 99,9%, 64,2% and 52,5%, respectively. It means that almost the entirety of the companies produce half of the numbers. The other half is produced by the other 0,2%.

WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN:

The EU report shows pretty unbalanced instance of Pareto’s principle, with only 0,2% of the companies producing almost half of the value added; but it is understandable, knowing that in EU there are big companies and holding branches that alone produce a huge wealth; on the other hand, it means that there are a lot opportunities of growth for smaller companies.
